SmartBro WiFi Smart Tag

On June 11th, premier tech news blog YugaTech Philippines broke the news about Smart's new service under its SmartBro product. It's called SmartBro WiFi - a prepaid service that allows users to get a Smart Tag (username and password) to access WiFi hotspots nationwide.

A student apparently coming from Ateneo de Manila University fed through YugaTech's Facebook page the following info:
It’s like SMART BRO. except you don’t have a USB modem. Just a permanent username and password. You can reload it like a normal smart bro. And you use that TAG (username and password) to access ANY smart bro hotspots. Upon registration, you get 5 days unlimited wifi access right away. To extend for 1 day you pay 30 pesos.
In an update, YugaTech owner Abe Olandres disclosed that there already are about 500 hot spots installed across the country for SmartBro WiFi. Reportedly, the regular rate is Php 15 for 30 minutes of web browsing.

Smart Communications has not released an official statement yet as this service, which hopefully will be launched soon, is currently on a test phase in select areas. We'll update this post once full details become available.
