IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A QUESTION which will be answered if we already see the new feature up on Gmail's user interface. Sources say that Google will possibly launch a new feature in its email service that will allow users to view media and status updates from their online connections.
So Google is set to update Gmail status a la Facebook, huh? No official word from Google on this one, not even in its official blog. But various sources on the web, which include the Wall Street Journal, have already given clues.
"Google could announce the new Gmail feature as soon as this week, said people familiar with the matter. The change adds a module to the Gmail screen that will display a stream of updates from individuals a user chooses to connect with, said one of these people. It is a format popularized by Facebook and Twitter," Jessica Vascellaro, who writes topics on Google for WSJ, posted earlier this week.
When it comes to business, companies who race in almost the same field would really do its best to take a slice of the pie from where the other company gains. That's competition.
Will Google follow or do what Yahoo!, and Friendster for that matter, already did? We'll see.
