Firefox updated to version 3.0.10

In an effort to make Firefox the safest browser, Mozilla has released version 3.0.10 with a security fix to a critical issue.

firefoxRecently, a critical issue specified as "Crash in nsTextFrame::ClearTextRun()" has been reported. The vulnerability can be used to run attacker code and install software, requiring no user interaction beyond normal browsing.

One of the security fixes in Firefox 3.0.9 introduced a regression that caused some users to experience frequent crashes. Users of the HTML Validator add-on were particularly affected, but other users also experienced this crash in some situations.

In analyzing this crash, the guys at Mozilla discovered that it was due to memory corruption similar to cases that have been identified as security vulnerabilities in the past. Thus, Firefox 3.0.10 was released to address such issue.

For those who already have the previous version installed, all you have to do to update are the following:
  • Open Firefox and go to 'Help'
  • Click 'Check for updates' and then follow the download and installation instructions.
