How to Keep your MP3 / MP4 / Video Player in Good Condition

I got this MP3 / MP4 / Video Player for Php 3,000 a couple of months ago - Php 2,600 for the unit and Php 400 for the 2GB memory card. This gadget can store and play hundreds of .mp3, .mp4, .mpeg, .flv, .avi and .wav files.

I treasure this gadget due to its sentimental value - the money I paid for it was donated by a friend whose laptop I repaired months ago. I had no intention to get payment from him but since he calls it a "donation", I accepted his offer.

Because of that, I established some DOs and DON'Ts to keep it well-maintained and in good playing condition, which I will share to you.

Let's start in the positive.

DOs:
  • Clean the gadget with dry cloth or cotton at least thrice a week or as necessary.
  • Have it scanned with an anti-virus / anti-spyware. Its memory card can also store malwares as we know. So it won't cause infection when you plug it in the computer when transferring / downloading files.
  • Keep it away from heat or moisture.
  • Recharge the battery only when fully drained to ensure a longer battery life.
  • Buy a pouch or casing where you can keep it when not in use.
  • Since it has a touchscreen, keep it scratch free. The softer you touch the screen, the better.
Now the don'ts.

DON'Ts:
  • Do not store files exceeding 80 percent of the total capacity of the memory card. The system may hang if the card is full.
  • Do not drop it to avoid breakage or damage. Gadgets like these usually don't have available spare parts and are disposable. Be extra careful.
  • Do not put it in a place with high temperature level. The i.c.'s may melt.
  • Do not overcharge the battery.

That's it. I hope this post can help owners of this kind of gadget.
