Convert FAT or FAT32 to NTFS Easily

Here's how to convert FAT/FAT32 to NTFS file system quickly and easily.

1. Know first which drive to convert. In this tutorial we will use drive D: as an example.

2. Go to Start/Run, type cmd

3. At the DOS prompt, type:

convert d: /fs:ntfs

This command will automatically convert your d: drive from FAT/FAT32 to NTFS.

4. If the system says it cannot proceed because the drive is in use, you will be prompted to convert it during next reboot. Select YES.

5. Reboot.

Conversion from FAT/FAT32 to NTFS is non-destructive, your data on the drive will not be lost.

Important: Be sure to have ntfs utilities, which are normally included during Windows XP installation (there's actually nothing to worry about), so that the partition of your drive will not become unreadable.
