Davao City’s public parks and the entire city hall building are now Wi-Fi hotspots. And everyone can enjoy online connectivity in these areas for free.

Ricarte Franco, City Information and Technology Center (CITC) chief, said the free Wi-Fi project is in partnership with the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) and was recently launched — just as the city is celebrating the annual Kadayawan sa Dabaw festival.

Franco said the city is among the first local government units chosen for the national government's free internet access project “Juan Konek”.
Free Wi-Fi can be accessed at the People’s Park, Osmeña Park, Quezon Park, and Rizal Park.

Franco said a user can enjoy up to 100MB of free data. After consuming the 100mb allocation, he said data connection will be throttled. A user must wait for the next day for fresh 100mb data allocation.

Pornographic sites are banned and for the city hall access, Facebook, Youtube, and other social networking sites are not available.

The modem and internet connectivity is provided by the DICT, while the city’s counterpart is to secure the equipment, provide power connection, and provide a technical person for the wi-fi operation and maintenance.
