The Duterte Effect: Wow, look at Divisoria now! [+photos]

Netizens couldn't believe what they saw in these viral photos: a clean and peaceful Divisoria, the shopping mecca in Recto Ave., Manila.

Facebook user Del Rosario Esteves Ed posted the pictures on July 1st, a day after the inauguration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Known as the central all-around market, Divisoria is where people from all walks of life buy ready-to-wear, accessories, decors, materials for home and living, and business as well as industrial supplies.

Thousands of budget conscious shoppers flock to Divisoria's street markets, midnight bazaars, tiangges, malls, wholesale and retail stores, and food stalls especially during school openings and holidays to avail of affordable, low-cost items including kitchen and house wares, clothes, shoes, bags, school supplies, and even pirated DVDs.

It's a one-stop shop, actually, and also a place frequented by snatchers and pickpockets. Now that the President is Duterte, who vowed to supress drugs, corruption and criminality in the country, everyone hopes that theft and other street crimes in Divisoria will be eradicated.
