WATCH: Overloaded pumpboat sinks in Butuan, teen dies

An allegedly overloaded pumpboat bound for Magallanes, Agusan del Norte sank in Butuan City. A teenager reportedly died in the mishap.

Reports remain sketchy at this time, but based on the post of Facebook user Rhomar John Rosalejos, the tragic incident happened in Agusan River last Saturday, June 11, at around 5:30 p.m.

As can be noticed in the video, passengers of the motorized water vessel, the owner/operator of which is still unidentified, are swimming back to the port without life vest.

It's unclear whether there was a rescue team as only fishermen with small boats are seen helping the victims.

According to a resident in the area, a 16-year-old passenger from Barangay Santo Niño, Butuan drowned and died. Another said all the other passengers were accounted for and no one was missing.

The number of injured persons is unknown.

The suspected causes of the incident are overloading and strong waves. A report that reached said an engine failure occured and there were 68 passengers when the tragedy took place.
