Cop kills live-in partner and her mother inside Davao apartment

A police officer shot and killed his live-in partner and her mother inside their rented apartment at Km. 7 Capundoc, Purok 8 Maa, Davao City.

The fatalities were identified as Cherry Jill Gapas, a 24-year-old school librarian of Mati Polytechnic College, and Flordelis Gapas, 53.

Based on the police report, the victims' neighbor, Robert Alao, 40, heard gunshots coming from the apartment past 4 a.m. last Friday. When he checked the apartment around 6 a.m., he saw the dead bodies and immediately called the authorities.

Initial investigation revealed that Cherry sustained two gunshot wounds in her arms while her mother was shot on her forehead and right arm.

PO3 Dennis Hejona, 32 years old and a resident of Brgy. Gabi, Compostela, Compostela Valley Province, got arrested a few hours later. He surrendered his 9mm handgun and a magazine with 10 live bullets.

Hejona was detained at Talomo Police Station pending investigation to determine the motive in the crime and filing of charges.

Supt. Gracel Sagpang, Talomo Police Station chief, said the suspect is mentally ill and will be brought to the mental hospital. However, Davao City Police would still file cases against Hejona due to the possibility that he is pretending to be insane to avoid jail, although some of his close friends said the suspect already got crazy in the past.

The family and friends of the victims cry for justice and appealed to presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte to impose the death penalty.
