Kris Aquino asks Roxas supporters to defend her against social media

TV host and presidential sister Kris Aquino asked supporters of Liberal Party bet Mar Roxas to defend her against netizens on social media.

In a video published on YouTube by her home network, ABS-CBN, the actress cried foul over online abuse and claimed that she is being hit in social media sites for using a presidential helicopter during a campaign sortie of LP in Cebu last Tuesday, April 19.

Kris has been caught in viral images getting off a government chopper on her way to attend a political rally of Roxas and his running mate, Leni Robredo, in Argao town.

Her brother, President Benigno Aquino III, who also attended the event, defended her by saying there's nothing wrong with it since Kris is "one of the biggest taxpayers" in the country. The chief executive has been accused of misusing public funds and government resources to support the candicacy of Roxas.

According to Atty. Ma. Corazon Naraja, spokesperson of the Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas, the use of government-owned vehicles and other government resources in election campaigns is prohibited under the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines.

She told reporters that the anti-graft office is gathering facts and, as a matter of policy, will conduct an investigation on its own based on media reports and available evidence.

"Let me remind everyone that using government resources to promote the candidacy of any person is an election offense," Naraja added.
