VIRAL: Kasambahay portrayed as 'sex object' in DepEd textbook?

Household workers, locally known as kasambahay, are apparently portrayed as a "sex object" in a textbook from the Department of Education (DepEd).

In a Facebook post, a certain Jane Fernandez asked "Ba't ganito ang libro na itinuturo sa paaralan natin [How come the book being taught in schools' like this] ...Grade 7 Panitikang Pilipino?"

Fernandez posted a photo of an excerpt from the book which shows a conversation between two characters - Ayi, the kasambahay, and Guido, believed to be the son of her employer.

Ayi offered to prepare the invitation cards and plan a party for Guido. She said it's her job as a "katulung, maid, yaya, more sophistically known as Maitre d in France" and "domestic worker" in Hong Kong, Philippines and London.

"In other words," Ayi said she is a "party planner," "laundry woman," "dishwasher," "gardener," and if the male employer is naughty, "sex object."

It appears the author's intention was to make the conversation funny, but the spelling and grammar were erroneous and the terms used were inappropriate for Grade 7 (first year high school) students.

According to a tipster, the Grade 7 Panitikang Pilipino textbook has a paid registration and its content was not meticulously scrutinized. Netizens said it should be recalled.
