In a recent video interview, the Sarangani representative expressed his personal stand against same-sex unions. He drew flak on social media for saying that gays are worse than animals.
The celebrities who reacted to Pacquiao's remarks include singer Aiza Seguerra, comedian and television host Vice Ganda, and US blogger Hilton Perez.
The LGBT is a group of people. We are humans. But not animals. Though we're no saints we will pray for Manny Pacquiao.— jose marie viceral (@vicegandako) February 16, 2016
May mga taong nakaattend lng ng prayer meeting at nakapagbasa lng ng bibliya higit pa sa Diyos ang turing sa sarili nila kung makapanghusga.— jose marie viceral (@vicegandako) February 16, 2016
Hilton posted on his blog:
"What?! Why do people have to compare homosexuality to animals?! WHY??
Look, if your religious beliefs prevent you from accepting same-sex marriage, that's on you. That's YOUR idea of propriety.
But there's absolutely no call to demonize and denigrate gay people by comparing them to animals just because their love is something YOU'RE unable to accept.
The sad thing here is that Pacquiao is world famous and a national hero as a boxer, so we can only guess he'll win his election to the Senate pretty easily — and then spread this awful attitude around within his country."
In a Facebook post, Pacquiao defended his comment on same-sex marriage and said he is "just telling the truth of what the Bible says."
"I rather obey the Lord's command than obeying the desires of the flesh. Im not condemning anyone, but I'm just telling the truth of what the Bible says. The truth from the Bible is what changed me from my old ways.
1 Corinthians 6:9 " Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men."
God Bless everyone i love you all."
