With a total firecracker ban in place, Davao City reports zero injuries during Christmas and New Year celebrations for the sixth straight year.

Netizen Roldan Gorgonio posted a video about it and in the caption he explained why.

Davao City continues to enjoy a zero-injury statistics at the start of 2016 as the local government is hardened into convictions and resolves to prohibit the use of firecrackers during Christmas and New Year revelries

For more than a decade, the people of Davao are already accustomed to celebrate the season taking to mind the most essential: Life. On top of obeying the law on the ban of firecrackers, DavaoeƱos celebrate the holidays in another level, with full of joy and hope.

This is possible through the leadership of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte which at first appeared too strict but today has echoed the merriment to our lives knowing that injuries or casualties are avoided because of a government that looks after the general welfare of its constituents.

In Davao, we are proud to say, Mayor Duterte is our firecracker in the sky. May God bless us all in 2016.

This video says it all. Watch this.

Politician, writer, and staunch Duterte supporter Manny PiƱol wrote that Davao City's Ordinance No. 060-02 which bans the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession or use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in the city at any given time of the year, but most especially on Christmas and New Year's Eve, is the reason behind it all.

Enacted on Oct. 15, 2002, the Ordinance imposes fines of up to P5,000 and a jail term of six months for violators and the cancellation of business permits of establishments caught violation the ban.

PiƱol said Duterte has been very firm in the implementation of the firecracker ban in the city and has not yielded to any appeal from business establishments involved in the manufacture of pyrotechnics.

"I know that there are people, especially those from Bocaue, Bulacan who are not happy with what I am doing but I have to ask them to understand that I have a higher duty to my fellow human beings," the city mayor and presidential candidate said in a recent interview.
