LOOK: Mt. Kanlaon eruption captured in photos

Mt. Kanlaon volcano in the Negros region spewed ash on Sunday, December 27, 2015. The five-minute volcanic eruption was captured in photos.


A notification from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) shows that an eruption occured from its active crater at around 1:29 p.m.

During the activity, there was an explosion-type earthquake accompanied with a rumbling sound that was heard in several areas including the villages of Cabagnaan, La Castellana, Sitio Guintubnan, Ara-al, and Yubo in La Carlota City.

The eruption plume reached 3,281 feet (1,000 meters) above the summit, the eruption notification stated.

State volcanologists said the photos that circulated on Facebook are actually those of the Sinabung eruption in Sumatra, Indonesia in 2013.
