Chinese teenager bashed for 'racist' comment against Filipinos

A Chinese teenager has been bashed on social media for posting what is said to be a rude, insensitive, and racist comment against Filipinos.

In a response to a remark made by one @engr.castronuevo, a certain yu.long said: "we can't buy referees but we can buy a million Filipinos to clean our toilets."

Many believed he was referring to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who work as domestic helpers and janitors.

Long's Instagram post is no longer accessible, but broadcast journalist Cesar Apolinario captured a screenshot and commented on it, saying: "Posts like this one deserves 12 rounds of applause and a come from behind three point shot sa ilong ng batang to! #Racist #TellYourMomToTeachYouSomeManners."

It went viral more than a day after China defeated the Philippines' national men's basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, in the Finals of the 2015 FIBA Asia Championships.

Filipino netizens accused the Chinese squad of dirty tricks and referees of biased officiating.

As of 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, the screenshot already got more than 7,300 likes, 13,600 shares, and over 3,600 comments.
