Student who lives under the bridge to graduate as valedictorian

Poverty is not a hindrance to success. An elementary student who lives under the bridge will graduate this school year as a valedictorian.


According to a report on GMA News Online, Cienna Igano has been recognized as first honor of her class from Grade 2 to Grade 6.

Her family resides under a bridge in Paco, Manila. Due to financial incapacity, she was unable to submit some of her school projects, but she persevered and studied hard to finish elementary.

In an interview aired on GMA newscast "24 Oras," her mother, Lotlot, said Cienna goes to school even if she has no money to buy snacks. She cries if told to be absent.

At a young age, the graduating pupil knows the importance of education. Cienna Igano's desire to lift her family out of poverty became her inspiration to excel in school.
