Noli de Castro breaks down, turns emotional after TV Patrol report on SAF

Veteran news anchor Noli de Castro wasn't able to contain his feelings and turned emotional during Thursday's newscast of TV Patrol.

Following a report on the hardships of the Special Action Force (SAF) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during training, the ex-vice president's voice cracked as he was about to deliver his closing spiels. He paused and did not continue his famous greeting "Magandang Gabi Bayan."

Bernadette Sembrano, who pinched hit for regular co-anchor Korina Sanchez, gently rubbed his back and delivered the closing lines in his behalf.

De Castro broke down and cried over the fallen heroes who perished while fulfilling their duties over the weekend.

Last Sunday, 44 SAF rangers died while 16 others were injured following a bloody encounter with members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Barangay Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

The PNP-SAF troopers were in the area to serve outstanding warrants of arrest for Filipino bomb-making expert Abdul Bassit Usman and suspected Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Abu Marwan, when the clash erupted.
