Janet Lim Napoles, the alleged mastermind of the so-called pork barrel scam, wore a Pope Francis t-shirt during her bail hearing Wednesday.
The detained businesswoman went to the court wearing a yellow shirt printed with an image of the smiling pontiff on the front and the logo of the Papal Visit to the Philippines as well as the "Mercy and Compassion" theme on the back.
According to GMA News, netizens quickly posted their reactions upon seeing her photos on social media. Some reportedly accused Napoles of using the well-loved and highly-respected Pope in vain. A non-Catholic even considered her act "an insult" to the Church.
Her lawyer once made an eyebrow-raising claim that Napoles is a very religious person, who prays using a rosary she received from the late Pope now Saint John Paul II two thousand times daily.
