Magnitude 5.2 earthquake shakes parts of Mindanao

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook Sarangani, Davao Occidental and other parts of Mindanao after lunchtime on January 21, Phivolcs said.


In their Twitter account, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that the quake struck 29 kilometers Northeast of Sarangani at 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday.


It was felt in several areas with the following intensities:
  • Intensity IV- General Santos City; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental
  • Intensity III- Davao City; Digos City, Davao del Sur; Alabel and Kiamba, Sarangani; Tagum, Davao del Norte
  • Intensity II- Kidapawan City
The temblor, which has a depth of 49 kms, was tectonic in origin. Phivolcs added that aftershocks are expected.
