A "divine signal" is what Davao City mayor Rody Duterte awaits to occur for him to make an announcement that he will run for president in 2016.
"I am a Christian and I have a deep love and faith in God. I know life is governed by the rules of God. I go now and I die tomorrow. I should know, because in the past, that’s what I did, I direct my prayers to God and asked for guidance," Duterte said in an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
With the belief that becoming the highest-ranking public official in the land is "shaped by destiny and God’s will," the straightforward local chief executive reportedly said the "divine signal" he was waiting for could come "at any day and in any form;" it could even be "a woman."
Duterte, who was legally separated from his wife, noted that he doesn't want to enter Malacañang without a First Lady, according to the report.
In his speech during a consultative assembly at the Doña Ynez Convention Center in Butuan City, which was attended by more or less four hundred people, the hard-hitting city mayor revealed what his plans are if he gets elected as president.
"I do not have the brilliance of (Ferdinand) Marcos nor the smartness of (Fidel) Ramos, or the abilities of Miriam (Santiago). But if I become President, I will rule with common sense and a good heart," he said, an ANC report via Yahoo! News Philippines tells us.
He added that there would be "swift and immediate reforms" that will bring about genuine good governance as well as peace and order throughout the country.
Duterte, who introduced and implemented drastic but effective disciplinary measures to make Davao City one of the best places to live and retire to in the whole world, is on what the report describes as a "listening tour."
He is reportedly consulting the people and preaching the merits of a federal system of government. Besides Mindanao, his itinerary also includes key cities in Visayas, Luzon and the National Capital Region (NCR).

It is believed that only Duterte can beat vice president Jojo Binay in the presidential election. Duterte and senator Grace Poe as his running mate would be a dream team.
