#Safie, a combination of the words "safe" and "selfie," will soon become a trending hashtag particularly among taxi commuters in the Philippines.
A certain youth group thought of it amid reports of rape and robbery incidents involving unscrupulous taxi drivers. It seems the Philippine National Police as well as netizens like the idea.
Here's how it works, according to a report aired Thursday night on ABS-CBN's primetime newscast TV Patrol:
- Upon boarding a taxi, ask permission from the driver to take a selfie with him;
- Together with the driver's name or the taxi's name and plate number, upload the selfie photo to social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram with #safie;
- This way, authorities will be able to monitor goings-on in taxis via social media to help them curb and solve crimes more efficiently.
