During the ZTE smartphone sale, 100 units of the brand's Grand X2 L flagship phone were reportedly sold in each participating outlets in several malls including SM City North EDSA, SM City Sta. Mesa, and Gaisano Mall of Davao.

However, store managers "abruptly" announced that they were already running out of promo units as the Grand X2 L, with a suggested retail price of P11,999, was offered for only P1,999.

According to several angry buyers, who expressed their sentiments on social media after waiting for several hours only to be dismayed, what happened was some staff of ZTE kiosks and other mall tenants allegedly reserved and hid a number of units for themselves.
