According to an ABS-CBN News report, the 26-year-old victim was found dead inside the comfort room of Celzone Hotel in Barangay West Tapinac before dawn on Sunday, October 12.

Police said Laude checked-in with a "foreigner," who appeared to be in the mid-20s. The suspect left their room after about half an hour.

Investigation results revealed that the victim was strangled to death based on the marks on her neck, the report said. She was wrapped in a bed sheet, with her head slumped in the toilet bowl.

Laude's friend, who accompanied her and the "foreigner" to the hotel, told police that they came from a disco bar. Minutes after arriving at the hotel, Laude became uneasy and told the friend to leave before the "foreigner" could discover that they were transgenders, reported.

Meanwhile, Marine Corps Times reported about a US Marine being placed under custody on board the amphibious assault ship Peleliu, utilized by the Light Infantry 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, in a joint military exercises in the Philippines.

The identity of the suspect in the killing of Jennifer Laude has not been released.

Three other US Marines from the same unit have been detained aboard the ship and are being considered as "potential witnesses," according to an internal Navy memo obtained by the news outlet.
