At first, there were reports that Roxas was inside the chopper that crashed. However, the cabinet official tweeted in response to queries that he was safe along with defense secretary Voltaire Gazmin.

PhilStar.com reports that the Philippine Air Force Sokol combat utility helicopter, traveling as part of Roxas and Gazmin's convoy, crash landed around 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

Capt. Franco Suelto, spokesman of the 1st Army Division, told the news outlet that the pilot "managed to maneuver the helicopter and saved its 11 passengers."

He said two persons—Staff Sgt. Darius Valdez, a crew member, and Santiago Saavedra, a bystander—were hurt. The latter was reportedly hit by a debris from the helicopter.

The actual Sokol helicopter crash was caught on video. Watch:

After the incident, some netizens on social media expressed concern for DILG secretary Mar Roxas, fearing that he might suffer the same fate as that of the late Jesse Robredo who died in a plane crash off the coast of Masbate City.

Robredo was replaced by Roxas as interior secretary after his tragic death in August 2012.
