CPA Board Exam News: Yolanda Survivor Among Topnotchers

News about the CPA board exam got more interesting after it was revealed that a Typhoon Yolanda survivor is among the topnotchers.

Rommel Rhino Edusma, who obtained his accountancy degree from Asian Development Foundation College, landed at first place after garnering a rating of 94.57 percent. The 25-year-old is the first topnotcher produced by said school.

Last week, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced that 1,107 out of 5,540 passed the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination held in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Legazpi in late July.

Joanna Marie Lim Barrozo of San Beda College of Alabang came second to Edusma with a rating of 93.43% followed by Ray Hamodi Balagbis Ngalot of the University of San Carlos (92.43%) for third place.

Reports said the Yolanda survivor was in his boarding house when he heard the good news. After an online verification, he immediately called his parents in Pinabacdao, Samar. They were very happy and proud of his achievement.

Edusma left his hometown to review and look for a job in Manila. Now that he passed the licensure examination, he promised to pay for the education of his youngest sibling who is in second year college.

In an interview, the CPA board exam first placer shared that he was focused and determined to pass despite his terrible Typhoon Yolanda experience.
