Dead baby comes back to life during funeral (viral video)

Believe it or not, a dead baby has come back to life during her funeral Saturday afternoon at Aurora town in Zamboanga del Sur.

Baby back from the dead

A report published on news blog The Daily Pedia says the 3-year-old baby was supposed to be brought to her final resting place when she "gained consciousness" after being presumed dead for 24 hours.

Facebook user Catherine Romanaso first posted the video taken by her friend at the church where the incident took place. It has been shared over 14,000 times on the social networking site as of this posting.

According to commentator Tata Junine Solon, the child "died" around 9am last Friday, July 11, and was supposed to be buried at 1pm the following day.

While at the church for the funeral rites, the parents, who live in Barangay Romarate in said municipality, noticed that their baby opened her eyes and, as shown in the video, the father immediately pulled her up from the coffin.

As to what caused the baby to "die" temporarily, whether or not she was brought to a hospital for medical attention, why she was not embalmed, and what prompted the parents to bury her remains after 24 hours are yet to be known.

Many consider it as a "miracle", but there's a scientific explanation about such phenomenon.

A Wikipedia entry says it's been called the "Lazarus Syndrome" taken from "the name of Lazarus who, according to the New Testament, was raised from the dead by Jesus."

"Occurrences of the syndrome are extremely rare and the causes are not well understood," according to the website. "Its occurrence has been noted in medical literature at least 38 times since 1982."

The rare cases over that span of time involved persons with ages ranging from at least 23 years old to more than 70 years old. As far as we know, this is the first time that a dead baby has come back to life during her funeral.
