Hotel owner Richard King shot dead

Richard King, owner of Crown Regency Hotel, was reportedly shot dead Thursday evening by a lone gunman inside his building in Davao City.

According to a report from ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao, the 56-year-old businessman was eating dinner with his employees as well as participants and guests of a wellness training when an unidentified man entered the ground floor and shot him in the head.

The suspect immediately left the crime scene on board a getaway vehicle waiting outside the Vital-C Building, which authorities described as a black motorcycle.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Davao said the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

The motive of the attack has not been established. A police investigation is ongoing, the report said.

Richard King is a known businessman in Cebu and, according to a Sunstar report, has appeared in local news because of several controversial issues which include the allegation that in November 2012, he hired armed men to attack an indigenous peoples' community in Boracay where he built a hotel and resort.
