Pope Francis blessing disabled woman in Italy

According to Catholic News Agency, the heartwarming scene which was captured on video took place on June 21 during the pope's pastoral visit to the Calabria region in southern Italy.

The family of the woman, whose name is Roberta, patiently waited at the side of the highway near their home and held posters asking the pontiff to make a stop and bless her.

Pope Francis, who came from a speaking engagement at the Cassano allo Jonio town, saw the signs and granted the family's request.

He approached the disabled woman who was lying on a mobile stretcher to bless and kiss her on the forehead. After which he greeted the family and children as well as other people who were cheering and clapping in the background.

Roberta's family and friends turned to social media to thank the pope. The Facebook post of Ivan Vania, who helped make the posters, read:

Today we can say that Christ stopped in Sibari in the vestments of Pope Francis...it was very emotional to see how Pope Francis greeted Roberta...there are gestures in life that are worth more than speeches, much more than you would think...Pope Francis is unique.
