Eiffel tower evacuated due to bomb threat

The Eiffel Tower was evacuated due to a bomb threat Saturday night. Reports said authorities searched for bombs in every corner of the iron lattice tower following an anonymous call.

More than a thousand tourists were requested to leave the monument as bomb experts looked for explosives.

Police had set up a security perimeter and used K9 bomb sniffing dogs to detect any device that may cause a blast in the world-known tourist attraction in France.

An officer who requested anonimity told some members of global news organizations that bomb detection teams did not find explosives.

Reports said it was the first time this year that the Eiffel Tower was evacuated after a terror warning. A similar situation occured twice years ago.
