Donaire shows off wounded fist on Twitter after beating Nishioka

The Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire sent down Japan’s Toshiaki Nishioka to the canvass twice before referee Raul Caiz, Sr. stopped the fight at 1:54 of the ninth round.

Donaire dominated the match, won every round, and eventually came victorious via a technical knockout (TKO) to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior featherweight title.

After the fight, the Filipino champ posted a pic on his official Twitter account, exposing a large open wound on his fist.

Donaire revealed the wound was opened during a sparring session during his training. He had anticipation that it would open during the fight and he was right.

For the wound to heal completely, the 29-year-old Donaire said he will take the rest of the year off.

With Saturday’s victory Donaire improved to 30-1 with 19 knockouts, while Nishioka fell to 39-5-3 with 24 knockouts.

It was the first time that Nishioka lost in over eight years. He is expected to retire soon.
