Robin Gibb Dead, Bee Gees Singer Dies of Cancer

British singer and songwriter Robin Gibb, best known as a member of the Bee Gees, died on Sunday, May 20, 2012, after a lengthy battle with colorectal cancer. He was 62.

A month prior to his death, Gibb reportedly caught pneumonia and was in a coma, but regained consciousness after a week.

A statement released on the night of his death reads:

“The family of Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”

Gibb last performed on stage in February 2012 to support injured British servicemen and women at a charity concert at the London Palladium.
