According to reports, Peñaranda was walking along F.O. Santos street, Bgy. Batong Malake with fellow UPLB dance group members when two motorcycle-riding men approached them and declared a holdup.

Peñaranda and his companions were reportedly able to run, but the UPLB junior was overtaken by the suspects and stabbed him in the chest before fleeing. The robbers were not able to take anything.

Peñaranda, who hailed from Tanay, Rizal, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, Cruz reportedly said they now have information on the identities of the suspects and his men are already going after them.
