Manny Pacquiao camp: No May 5 bout vs Mayweather

Despite the willingness of Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao to fight undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5, his camp says otherwise.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather
Pacquiao’s adviser, Michael Koncz, told The Associated Press that a larger arena that can accomodate 45,000 people is being built in Las Vegas and won’t finish until the end of May.

Koncz reportedly said that the new arena could raise $50 million in ticket sales, compared to the 17,000-seater MGM Grand that can fetch $30 million less.

According to the report, Koncz said staging the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in a smaller venue is “foolish from an economic standpoint.”

Meanwhile, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum in an interview said the fight “badly needs” a larger arena. He added that the fight could happen at the end of May - enough time to build it.
