Pasay RTC Issues Warrant of Arrest for Benjamin Abalos

The Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) has issued a warrant of arrest for former Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Benjamin Abalos who is facing an electoral sabotage case.

Benjamin AbalosABS-CBN correspondent Atom Araullo reports that Judge Jesus Mupas of Pasay RTC Branch 112 issued the arrest warrant against the former Comelec official Tuesday morning, December 13.

Abalos earlier said that he will not ask the court for either hospital or house arrest, saying he is a man of law and would respect the court order.

He is being accused of electoral sabotage, which is a non-bailable offense that carries a penalty of life imprisonment, for alleged participation in the purported 2007 poll fraud.

Reports said that as of around 11:08 a.m., Abalos is on his way to the Pasay RTC to surrender, turn himself into the custody of the court.
