September 21 special non-working holiday
MalacaƱang has declared September 21, 2009, Monday, as a national special non-working public holiday in the Philippines in celebration of Eid’l Fitr.
Eid’l Fitr is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
The September 21 holiday would mean another long weekend for Filipinos from the 19th to the 21st. Long weekends encourage domestic tourism and give employees more time for family activities. Tourism businesses and related industries increase as a result of the long weekends.
For some business analysts, however, long weekends would result in lower work output that will affect economic productivity.
